Yucatan

Yucatan

In Mexico there is a place, rather a promontory, named Yucatan. This name has a unique history. When Francisco Fernandez de Cordoba landed at that place in 1517, he asks you the name of that place to the local Mayan population. All residents are asked to answer the "Yucatan". De Cordoba later named that place Yucatan.

At that time he did not know that in the Mayan language, Maya means "I Do not Understand What You Mean". Yucatan's name remains attached to the present.
